Schiffli is an apart hotel for business stays, housed within a historic building whose façade reflects centuries of changing use. From fishing-related functions to bakery, inn, and restaurant, the building has always adapted to movement, work, and passage.
The design concept draws from this layered history and the site’s relationship to water and boats. Rather than literal references, the project translates these ideas through materiality and atmosphere. Weathered woods, muted tones, and tactile surfaces evoke durability, patina, and quiet functionality.
The interiors are calm, restrained, and purposeful, conceived as temporary harbours for contemporary travellers. Schiffli continues the building’s tradition of transformation, balancing historic presence with modern use.
